Wercker Announcing Series A Funding Open Sources CLI Technology to Empower Developer

Today is an exciting day for wercker and its community. We are happy to announce we’ve raised a $4.5 million funding round, led by INKEF Capital with backing from our existing investors.

We started wercker in 2013 with the goal of increasing developer velocity and helping developers focus on building their products.

This last year we’ve seen the container landscape evolve. Docker is reaching version 1.10; schedulers such as Kubernetes and Mesosphere are taking shape; and we launched our local development model, enabling developers to build and deploy containerized applications. This coming year we’ll be expanding our Docker-based platform and enhancing wercker’s automation capabilities.

But our goals center not only around technology; we want to create an open, efficient and reliable platform that changes the status quo. To that end, we’re very excited to open source one of our core technologies, the wercker Command Line Interface (CLI). The wercker CLI is the main application that executes your pipelines on the wercker cloud platform, and runs on your laptop as well. By open sourcing the wercker CLI we hope to get to dev-prod parity faster and turn build once, ship anywhere into anautomated reality.

This investment will allow us to accelerate our enterprise offering, expand our commercial team, and of course build the best developer experience out there for creating and deploying containerized applications in an automated way.

We couldn’t have done this without a great team, and I couldn’t be prouder of the team we’re building at wercker. It also just got stronger: Wayne Gibbins, with whom I’ve worked with extensively at Notion Capital, is joining wercker as its Chief Commercial Officer. If you are interested in joining the wercker team, either in San Francisco or Amsterdam, please check out wercker.com/careers.

The team and I would also like to take a moment to thank you, our community, and the support you guys and girls have given us over the last few years.
